General troubles

When changing between OEM versions of the Apteryx application, the logos (on the desktop and in the Start menu) do not change to the new version.

Windows does not know that it is to update the cached logo(s) that it is using when displaying the icons for the program. Even when the icons are changed in the item's properties (via Change Icon), Windows will still use the old logos due to the fact that it can not detect that anything has changed.

To use the latest icons, select Create Local Shortcuts from the Help menu.

Software Crashes

XrayVision crashes in Kernel32.dll

This crash is related to a wide range of items from incompatible operating system components to improperly installed hardware.

Usually, the only way to resolve these errors is to call technical support.

XrayVision crashes in MFC40.dll

This crash is related to an out-of-date MFC40.dll Windows component. The version of this DLL should be 4.1.6140 or above. Update your version of MFC40.dll.

XrayVision crashes in DDraw.dll

This crash is usually occurs in tandem with using real-time-video(RTV), and is usually caused by an out-of-date version of DirectX. Upgrade your version of DirectX.

Common Display Problems

"Squiggly" lines appear on the various tabs in XrayVision

This is a Windows bug in version 4.00.950 There is no resolution, short of upgrading your version of Windows.

24-bit images are not displayed correctly.

Special care must be taken when displaying 24-bit images on 256 color monitors. If your monitor can only display 256 colors, then you must let XrayVision know that it must optimize the display of 24-bit images.

To optimize the display of 24-bit images on a 256 color monitor:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Average under the 24-bit Color Table Generation option.
  3. Click on the OK button.
  4. Select Redraw from the Image menu.

Note that you only need to set the 24-bit Color Table Generation option once. Once it has been activated, it will automatically handle the display of 24-bit images.

I changed the size of my desktop and now I lost one of my floating toolbars!

When you resize the system desktop, it is possible for a floating toolbar in XrayVision to "float" off the screen.

To get back any lost toolbar:

  1. Select the Toolbars option from the View menu.
  2. Click on the name of the lost toolbar with the left mouse button.
  3. Click on the Redock button.

Imaging Problems

Hi-res images are blurry on my Suni (MPDx) captures

Residual charges on the MPDx sensors can introduce a bluring effect on x-ray captures. To help reduce this, you should extend flush times:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu
  2. Click on the Sensor tab
  3. Click on the MPDx USB button
  4. Enable Use Extended Flush Times
  5. Click on OK
  6. Click on OK

Coreco interface focus problems

Cause: Older Coreco hardware drivers contained a problem where their display window lost the focus and disappeared behind other applications.

Resolution: Download and install the new Coreco device drivers

Common Scanning or Image Capture Problems

Microtek scanning crashes with error in component SM8a32.dll

Something has corrupted/confused the Microtek device driver. Reboot your computer.

Umax scanners can not auto-acquire or fail on the second pass of the auto-acquire process.

Cause: On todays faster computers, the Umax scanner driver tries to scan before the scanner is actually ready to scan (when the scan head is still returning to its rest position). This causes the scanner driver to report an error (the scanner is not ready).

Resolution: Either download the latest Umax scanner driver or enable scan pausing in the XrayVision software by:

  1. Select TWAIN Devices from the Tools menu
  2. Double click on the Umax scanner with your left mouse button
  3. Enter a value of 5 under Dual Scan Delay
  4. Click on the OK button
  5. Click on the Done button

When I try to acquire an image, I get an error indicating that the scanner is in use or that the scanner can not be found!

Make sure that your scanner is turned on. Additionally, be sure that your scanner was on before you started Windows, some scanners must be turned on before windows is started.

If you are sure that the scanner was turned on, and you are sure that no other application is using the scanner, you may try resetting it by selecting Reset Scanner from the Acquire option in the File menu of XrayVision.

If the scanner will still not work after resetting:

  1. Turn off your scanner.
  2. Exit windows and turn off your computer.
  3. Turn on your scanner.
  4. Turn on your computer.
  5. Restart XrayVision and try scanning again.

After I transfer an image back to XrayVision, the image capture interface hangs.

Some image capturing interfaces rely on the invoking application to automatically close the capturing interface after an image has been transferred. (Note that some image capturing interfaces do not need to be closed after an image was captured so that you can capture multiple images at a time.)

If your image capturing interface hangs when you transfer an image to XrayVision:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Make sure a check mark appears next to the "Close interface after capture" option.

The image capturing interface comes up, but I can not close the interface nor can I transfer images back to XrayVision.

Sometimes, capturing interfaces do not process user requests correctly (16-bit to 32-bit message problems).

If your image capturing interface will not close or will not transfer images to XrayVision:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Make sure that a check mark does not appear next to the "Process TWAIN message" option.

The image capturing interface behaves awkwardly. I can not select options and when I type on the keyboard, several characters appear instead of just one, etc.

The image capturing interface is processing a user request multiple times.

If your image capturing interface behaves awkwardly:

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Make sure that a check mark does appear next to the "Process TWAIN message" option.

When I scan x-rays using my scanner, the image appears very dark with very low contrast.

In order to scan transparent media such as x-rays, you must have a transparency adapter.

To scan x-rays, be sure that you have a transparency adapter and that it is active. Also note that some scanners require the use of a transparency template when scanning transparent media.

Common File Transfer Problems

My computer will not receive phone transfers from remote computers!

Due to the fact that there are so many types of modems, configuring your modem for your computer is essential (usually, this is done automatically when you install your modem). However, modem problems have been known to occur when installing a new modem or updating your operating system.

If your computer will not receive phone messages from remote computers, try updating your modem's driver or INF file. For more information on updating your drivers, you may consult your modem information, consult your Window's documentation, or contact technical support.

Layouts

"Temporary file failure" error reported when trying to save a layout.

For complete information on this topic, please review "Recovering from network problems" from the Apteryx Imaging Knowledgebase.

Patient/Image Database

"Someone has just deleted or merged the patient ..." message displayed.

For complete information on this topic, please review "Recovering from network problems" from the Apteryx Imaging Knowledgebase.

Networked version of XrayVision can not access the remote patient database (sometimes reported as incorrect version).

This error usually occurs due to read-only permissions on the computer on which XrayVision is installed or on which the remote patient database is located.

Turn on "write" or full access permissions on the remote computer.

Common Marking Problems

I can not place a color marker in a grayscale image!

When you place a color marker in an image, it is automatically mapped to the closest color available in the image. Since there are only shades of gray in a grayscale image, a color marker will appear as a shade of gray.

To place a color marker in a grayscale image:

  1. Convert the image to RGB (24-bit) by selecting RGB Color from the Convert To option in the Image Menu.
  2. Insert your color marker.
  3. Convert the image to 256 colors by selecting 256 Colors from the Convert To option in the Image Menu.

Common Printing Problems

An image is not printed when I try to print a full page image!

Due to the fact that there are may different types of printers, not all printers offer the same features. By default, when you print a full page image, XrayVision relies on the hardware to enlarge the image. Due to the fact that some printers are limited in their enlargement capabilities, a printer may simply not print an image.

The Format tab on the Options dialogue provides you with customization options for enlarging printed images. Please refer to the Printing Images section of XrayVision's on-line help for customizing printing from XrayVision.
